Turning solid waste into a resource for Bouaké!
Promoting the circular economy by encouraging waste sorting and recovering is one of the main missions of the National Waste Management Agency (ANAGED) of Côte d’Ivoire.
The second most populated city in the country, with a population of nearly 900,000, Bouaké generates an estimated 1,000 tons of household solid waste per day.
ANAGED aims to create a Simplified Waste Recovery Center (CVSD) there to strengthen and boost recovery initiatives and support and professionalize existing actors.
By revitalizing the circular economy, the goal is to transform the challenge of solid waste management into an opportunity to create a more sustainable future.
Phoenix and Groupe Huit are responsible for developing the business plan and assessing the environmental and social impact of the future CVSD on the ground.
Our mission:
- Identify all waste recovering and recycling initiatives in the city, some formal but many informal, to assess their market dynamics, constraints, and opportunities on the ground.
- Propose a business model for the CVSD, meeting the needs of sector stakeholders in terms of value creation, by identifying priority sectors and necessary investments, the CVSD’s positioning, and its management structure.
- Finally, develop a comprehensive projected business plan for the CVSD, outlining the conditions for its economic viability.
What are the most promising recycling and recovery sectors and what constraints hinder their development?
What should the CVSD’s positioning be to support, energize, and strengthen local waste recovery stakeholders?
What contractual mechanisms should be implemented to ensure sound management, stakeholder integration, economic viability, and equitable access to CVSD services?
What are the conditions for the CVSD’s economic viability, solvency, and sustainability?
These are all questions that structure our thinking…
