Studies of the Water Supply Master Plans of 6 regional capitals and 18 secondary cities of Guinea Conakry
Considered as the “water tower of West Africa” because of the many rivers that take their source there, Guinea is however still struggling to supply its secondary cities with drinking water. In 18 of them, the situation is alarming, with a rate of access to the Société des Eaux de Guinée (SEG) network varying between 14% and 59% in 2019. The situation is even more worrying in the six regional capitals of Guinea, where the rate of access to water via the SEG never exceeds 35%.
To remedy these weaknesses, the Guinean government has requested the support of the French Development Agency to finance, through the European CiCliA facility, the master plans of the 6 regional capitals and 18 secondary cities.
The Artelia consulting firm has been mandated to carry out this mission. Phœnix is accompanying the company in this study, and will be specifically in charge of the water demand analysis as well as the economic and financial analysis of the project. The water demand analysis will be based on field surveys of 800 households in the secondary centers.
Despite the recent political tensions in Guinea, the mission is being maintained and our team will travel in September 2021 to launch the first investigations of this study and prepare the survey phase. Phœnix will conduct a series of training sessions to enable interviewers to familiarize themselves with the questionnaire and to take into account the reality of the field. The survey should be launched following the training sessions in October 2021. Its results will be used to inform the production of drinking water supply master plans.
